Residency Obligation

  • A permanent resident has to be physically present in Canada for 730 days out of every five years. If you are outside Canada and the visa officer figures out that you are not meeting your residency obligation, then you might lose your permanent residency.
  • You have the right to appeal to the Immigration Appeal division explaining the reason why you did not meet the residency obligation.
  • Restriction:There is no restriction on this appeal.Timeline: You have 60 days to appeal after refusal.
