Visitor Visa

A visitor visa is a type of temporary resident visa. It is a document you can apply for to come to Canada for a vacation, visit your family or business trip within a certain period. You must show the officer that you will be staying in Canada for a temporary period. While applying for a visitor visa, you must prove to the officer that you meet all requirements regulated by the Canadian government in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.

Canada welcomes more than 35 million temporary residents every year. Visitors, not Canadian citizens or not permanent residents must obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to enter Canada.

The length of stay granted with a visitor visa depends on the purpose of the visit. Extending the stay in Canada may be possible if the necessary conditions are met.

In some cases, a letter of invitation from a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may be required to support the applicant’s purpose of visiting. This letter should summarize the purpose of the visit, the relationship between the visitor and the host, and details regarding the financial support during the accommodation process.

Citizens of visa-exempt countries, except US citizens, must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before flying to Canada, even if they do not need a visitor visa.

Here are some crucial points regarding the Canada visitor visa:

  • Applicants must prove that they will leave Canada at the end of the period they request permission to stay.
  • They must have enough money to finance themselves during their stay in Canada.
  • They must prove with documentation that they do not pose a safety or health risk to Canada.
  • Visitor visa applications can usually be made online.
  • Biometric information is also requested from applicants as part of the application process.
  • Applicants may be required to undergo a medical examination, which is determined depending on the length of stay they plan to stay and the country they come from.
  • Processing times for visitor visas vary. For this reason, it is recommended that you apply well before the date you plan to come.
