Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)

Ontario-Immigrant-Nomination-Program

The OINP was launched in 2007. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) helps employers in the immigration process for managerial, professional, skilled foreign workers, and international students essential to fulfilling human resources requirements.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), the province’s economic immigration program, works in partnership with the Canadian government through IRCC.

Ontario manages the OINP with the federal immigration department, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Prospective candidates must undergo a two-stage process: first, applying for nomination from the provincial government, and subsequently, if nominated, applying for permanent residence through the federal government.

Foreign workers, international students and others with the right skills, experience and education apply to the OINP to be nominated by the province. The OINP recognizes and nominates people for permanent residence the Ontario economy needs. Then, the Government makes the final decision to approve applications for permanent residence through IRCC.

The main objectives of the OINP are to respond to skill shortages in targeted areas, make it easier to invest in Ontario and ensure newcomers can settle and integrate well in the province.

When it started, the Ontario PNP could only nominate up to 1,000 newcomers; however, today, Ontario nominates some 8,000 newcomers annually.

OINP Streams

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) uses two intake systems to manage applications. Before applying to the program, you must register in either the Expression of Interest system or the Express Entry system to let the OINP know you wish to be invited to apply.
